Kanawa is a beautiful tropical island of about 28 Hectares, fully surrounded by natural reefs. It consists of two main white sand beaches and one small, hidden sand cove. At the center of the island a hill guarantees astonishing 360 degrees views all over Komodo National Park, offering one of the world's most spectacular sunsets. Located just at the boarders of Komodo National Park, Kanawa Island is the perfect destination for exploring and diving in the Komodo National Park.

This wonderful tropical getaway is only one hour away from Bali International Airport. A small resort made of 14 bungalows, a restaurant, the Starfish Cafe, which serves wonderful grilled fish, Indonesian and Italian delicacies and cold drinks, a complete diving, and water sport centre in order to guarantee activities and tours every day, a small spa to provide you with massage and reflexology directly on the white sand beach Kanawa Beach Bungalow is the ONLY resort on the island, and this will never change, the resort occupy the southern area of the island, while the north area is left on purpose natural and deserted, to preserve the flora and fauna which inhabit the island.


Kanawa Beach Bungalows has a totality of 14 bungalows directly located on the beach, few steps away from the crystal clear waters and reef. Our accommodations are basic but clean and comfortable and providing astonishing views from the terraces.

A bedroom, a toilet and a terrace, with a total dimension of about 30m2, composes each Bungalow, in five bungalows, which are larger (about 36m2) is possible to add an extra bed and sleep in three.

How to get there

While most visitors enter Komodo National Park (KNP) through the gateway city of Labuan Bajo in the west of Flores, the departure point for your trip is actually Denpasar, Bali.

We offer a free shuttle boat service connecting everyday Kanawa and Labuan Bajo.
Boat schedule is as follow:

  • From Kanawa every morning at 08:00
  • From Labuan Bajo every day at 12:00
  • It is possible to charter a boat at any other time for 3/500.000 Rp depending on availability.

By Air:
Lion air
Trans Nusa Airlines

Regular flights every day, 50 minutes with Trans Nusa, 80 minutes with Merpati and Lion Air Labuan Bajo airport has connecting flights also to Ende and Kupang.

By Land:
The gateway cities of Labuan Bajo is connected to Denpasar, Bali by overland buses.

By Sea (ferry):
Travel time: approximately 36 hours
The gateway cities of Labuan Bajo is also connected to Denpasar, Bali by inter-island ferry. Contact the Indonesia Sea Transportation Company (PELNI) at Jalan Raya Kuta No. 299, Tuban - Bali (Tel: 0361 - 763 963) to reserve a seat on the KM. Tilong Kabila or Willis, which depart Benoa Port, Bali bound for Labuan Bajo.

By Sea (live-aboard):
Komodo National Park is serviced by a wide range of live-aboard boats, with return packages to Komodo National Park from a variety of departure points, including Bali, Lombok, Bima and Labuan Bajo. Liveboards departs also form Mataram and GiliTrawangan in Lombok with Labuan Bajo as destination. Try to contact Perama Tours and Kencana Tours for more details.
